We recently received a gorgeous book called Dragon Post by Emma Yarlett from Walker Books. We love books and we love tying in special and fun activities to go alongside them…
Book Review and Activity: Dragon Post by Emma Yarlett
Dragon Post follows the story of Alex, who one days finds a dragon. Alex is very keen to keep the dragon, but he knows this isn’t the best plan, so instead he writes to people in the community for help. He gets some very interesting replies indeed, but will the dragon stay, or will he go?
When the book arrived we fell head over heels in love with its presentation. It came with a lovely note from Alex and we couldn’t wait ro read it and get stuck into the book. Dragon Post by is a gorgeously presented book, perfect for children (and adults!) of any age. I don’t know about you, but I still find joy in beautiful books regardless of their age range…
The story is very sweet and I love Alex’s personality as it is portrayed within the story. He’s super cute and all he wants to do is take care of his new found friend. We opened the book to discover beautiful illustrations and various letters from people within the community, such as the Fire Brigade.
He reads the letters and as the story develops we get to see Alex and his dragon spend time together. Later on in the book Alex decides to seek advice from his best friend, and finally he makes the right decision.
The ending is fairly emotional, but then I am a total softie!
I feel this book would be helpful in times of loss, whether a pet or a family member. But it could also be just a fun and interesting read, without the deeper connections. I like that it’s appropriate for different situations, and as I keep saying, the illustrations are beyond beautiful…
Dragon Post by Emma Yarlett is a beautiful story presented with well thought out and engaging content. The illustrations are bold and colourful, perfect for telling the story and encouraging imagination.
After we’d read the book we decided to write a letter to somebody. George wrote a letter to his Daddy and Molly wrote a letter to George. It was a lovely activity and so much fun too!
