I love daydreaming about our forever home, especially about our children’s bedroom design. I think imagination is key to any childhood, so using this as a basis for design is a complete must for me.

It’s so important to incorporate imaginative and playful design into any room, but in particular a child’s bedroom. This place should be their haven, their go to space when they want to relax and unwind or go wild with their imaginations. Here are 5 ways to make their imaginations pop…

1. A den

Having a secret hide out is a must, right?! This could be a cupboard, a tree house or any other imaginative space. BUT having this in your very own room, well that’s just like heaven! George has a cabin bed that works as a bed, wardrobe, desk and shelving space, as well as a den underneath his bed. It’s an awesome space, perfect for reading books in peace or for hiding from the pirates sailing towards the window.

 

2. Wall art

Walls are there to be decorated! You could do so many things, from designing your own images to purchasing one of Wallsauce’s wall murals, there’s so much out there to inspire little minds! I love the idea of creating a world within a child’s bedroom, one they can explore and adventure in. I particularly love this Enchanted Forest design!

 

3. Toys

The right kind of toys are key to imagination. And I’m not talking expensive toys (my children could play with twigs for hours!), I’m talking about the kind of toy that engages children in the right way. Lego, for example, offers hours of entertainment and educational benefits, and you don’t have to spend tonnes of money to get your hands on some. Check out local charity shops or Ebay for great deals!

 

4. Lighting

Funky lighting, torches and other interesting mood lighting can offer a world of imagination to children. George has a funky lamp in his den as well as a desk lamp so he can read in his bed at night; it’s all about working with what you have and making it fun and entertaining.

 

5. Art

Hanging up their art work, or photographs can give a child’s bedroom a sense of belonging and family. They can be inspired by their own paintings or remind themselves of those wonderful days with friends by the river. These moments are captured forever and will create a plethora of memories upon the walls in your home.

 

Creating inspiring and engaging interiors for children doesn’t need to cost a fortune. You can upcycle, scout around charity shops for amazing deals and even make your own! If you do have a small budget then of course you can buy a wall mural or funky lamp, but check out alternative ways to create a cosy nook or den, because it can be done!
