Today on the blog I thought I’d write about my current situation with writing my novel – the (exhausting) editing process. I’m not going to lie, I’m feeling pretty exhausted from it!

 

Writing a Novel: The (Exhausting) Editing Process

 

Editing has to be one of the most soul sucking, yet most important parts of the book writing process. It stands for that all important time when you realise you’ve actually written a book, but it’s just a little scrappy and needs some tender loving care.

It’s not like you only do it once, either. I think I’m on my tenth read through, and I still have to read it again once I’ve sent it to my beta readers in May. The thing is, I know I need to do it, but at the same time I don’t know if I want to face continuous read-throughs of the exact same scene, yet it’s what I MUST do to finish the book.

 

 

Oh, woe is me…

It could be worse though, couldn’t it? I could have left the book behind and never looked back. I didn’t have to pick it back up and try, but I did! Also, I might not have the kind of life that means I can write my book, so I feel very lucky when I think about the life I could have as opposed to the one I do have…

And, even though it’s going to be an exhausting April (yes, I’ve set a deadline to complete it in April and yes, I am bonkers!) I know the sheer joy I feel when it’s complete will outweigh the recurring pages I’ll most likely dream about for months afterwards…

 

 

The worst thing is that I actually love my book. It’s not like I’ve ever hated it or resented, I love it like it’s a family member. So I need to show it some respect. I need to show it how much its loved, and the only way of doing that is finishing it and…

PUBLISHING it!
