A lot of the time we’re busy doing other things (sob), like cleaning and cooking. I’ve also made a point of putting George and Molly and there home education first (and rightly so!) so my novel has taken a backseat over the years.
We’re a household of creatives, so we’re often on a very tight budget. Living a ‘normal’ (What’s normal? Not us!) life with food on our table and a roof over our heads is essential, so budgeting and planning is key. I’ve popped together some top tips to help you (the budding novelist) to spend less and save more!
1. Food Planning and Savvy Shopping
When it comes to food shopping, planning for the week ahead is key. Write out the set meals for each day and only buy what you need for those meals to be created.
check online for deals. Different stores offer different things, trial delivery passes, free delivery, discounts on your first shop and so on. Spend a bit of time checking this out and ordering the cheapest food possible. Another way to save is to check out stores like Lidl (so cheap!) as well as heading to shops just before closing to buy all their discounted items.

Whilst writing your masterpiece(s) think about writing on the side to make some money. Start a blog or look into freelance work, you never know what may come up to help tide you over.
4. Hit the local charity shops
Head to your local charity shops to buy second hand clothing, toys and other bits and bobs. A lot of the clothes I pick up have hardly been worn and usually cost around £3! George and Molly also pick up toys and teddies for 50p or a £1 so there’s lots to be saved, plus your helping a good cause!
5. Grow your own…
Growing fruit and veg at home is so incredibly rewarding. You can get the kids involved, or just have a little project of your own. Before you know it, you’ll be growing your own dinner without the need to spend big bucks at the local shop!
