Writers: Here’s How to Gain Inspiration at Home
*Collaborative post
You’re likely reading this article today because you’re a writer, and you do much of your writing at home. The trouble is, writer’s block seems to be a recurring problem for you, and you’re not sure how to resolve the issue.
The truth is, there can be many different reasons why you’re struggling to get into the groove with your writing. Take a look at these suggestions on how you can make your writing hub in your home more inspirational, so the ideas and words simply flow through you:
Create a Dedicated Writing Room
You know how artists have studios to paint their masterpieces? Writers need somewhere dedicated to their work as well. That’s why it makes sense for you to have a dedicated room in your home where you can immerse yourself in your work.
For most people, the answer is to convert a spare bedroom. But, you might have other ideas in mind. You may want to convert your loft or attic space into a writer’s den, or you may even prefer to get out of the house altogether and work from a purpose-built garden office.
It doesn’t matter where in your home (or outside of it, in the case of garden offices) you decide to dedicate to writing. Just make it happen!
Fill That Room With Books
These days, almost all writers conjure up ideas and start drafting them on a computer instead of using paper. That’s fine, and it’s something that makes perfect sense. But, what if you need to take inspiration from other people’s publications?
It can be a good idea to fill your dedicated writing room with physical books on bookshelves. That way, when you want to take some time out and step away from your computer, you can immerse yourself in a book to help get those creative juices flowing.
Make Your Writing Workstation Comfortable
When you’re using a desktop computer, you need to use it at a desk. Don’t just get any old desk; choose something like an Omnidesk so that you can adjust its height and customise it to your needs.
Similarly, make sure you select an ergonomic chair that is comfortable to use for long periods and allows an array of adjustments for the ultimate seating position. Consider getting a footstool as well, if you feel that can help.
When you’re totally comfortable at your desk, you’ll find it easier to concentrate on what you want to write, instead of thinking about how uncomfortable you are!
Use the Right Tools on Your Computer
Last but not least, it doesn’t matter whether you use a PC or Mac to do your writing. What does matter is if you’re using the right tools on your computer. For example, are you saving your content to the content by using something like Google Docs?
Do you use any online tools to help you construct your sentences and paragraphs? When you first start writing a book, it makes sense to let your raw ideas get channelled onto a document that you can polish up later.
Good luck!
