Most of the time, the period between the first stage of grief and the acceptance stage is incredibly difficult to bear and manage. This is because it is filled with so many life choices that may end up damaging our physical, emotional, psychological, and even spiritual well being before we finally come to accept what the reality is. There have been countless instances where mental health has been damaged as a result of grieving for a lost loved one – we do not need to look too far to see the examples. But this does not have to be the case all the time. And although we cannot (in most cases) undo the pain that has been caused, there are a number of things we can do to overcome the negative effects that grief brings on our health.

  • Surround yourself with the right people

They say grief loves company – and that is true. But there is a huge difference between an uplifting company and a depressing one. And because a grieving person is a more mentally and physically vulnerable person, being surrounded by the wrong company can do more damage than good. The wrong company may either make you feel like you are overreacting to your loss or may dampen your spirit with negative thoughts. The right company will share your pain, comfort you, and uplift you at the same time.

  • Get busy

There is time to grieve, but there is also time to move on. And the best way to help you do the latter is by busying yourself with something productive. Heavy thoughts will come rushing into your mind as long as you remain idle. And the worst thing you can do yourself after losing someone is losing yourself too.

  • Get healthy

During the first stages of grief, food is usually the last thing on a person’s mind – at least, not healthy food. So, as you begin to gain control of yourself, make up for the lack of healthy eating by not only eating well but also exercising regularly.

  • Take up mind boosting activities

One part of the body that is mostly at risk during a period of grief is the mind. So, as much as possible, try to boost your mental health by taking up activities such as yoga lessons. Indeed, some people have found the results of psychic readings to be quite comforting during such uncertain times.

  • Reach out to a social circle

Reaching out to a social support system comes with a lot of benefits. Unlike friends and family, such people come with all the needed experience and expertise to help you go and grow through your negative experiences.

Coping with loss is something most people have to deal with at some point in our lives. Whether it is as a result of a loved one dying or our hearts being broken as a result of someone most important to us walking out of our lives, a grieving heart can be one of the most difficult things to comfort and heal. Luckily, with tips like those mentioned above, you can avoid the grading effects.
