Review: Zizzi Festive Season Menu Thanks to Bookatable

We love eating out, but sometimes it’s hard to find the best offers at high quality restaurants, especially this close to Christmas. • Festive Afternoon Tea

We had a look around the site and decided to search by location. Cardiff has quite a lot to offer in terms of eating out, and we stumbled upon Zizzi’s Festive options with a burst of excitement. Zizzi has a great selection of vegan options too, which means I end up feeling included in the festivities!

Their festive menu comes in two forms, Classico and Super Festivo. Classico consists of 3 courses for £19.95 whereas Super Festivo consists of 3 courses and a tipple for £25.95. We booked the Super Festivo through Bookatable, and it was so easy to do, plus you’re given all the information needed without having to look elsewhere, apart from dietary requirements. I do tend to over-research for vegan food, but that’s just the way I am!

We arrived for our chosen slot but we had to wait for our table to be cleared, which was a little disappointing considering we’d booked online and they had the reservation. Once everything was sorted, we were shown to our table and given our menus. I think it’s great to have a separate Christmas Menu, especially for companies or groups wishing to celebrate Christmas as a team; it makes the whole experience more enjoyable.

Zizzi’s Festive Menu is quite extensive, but there was only one vegan starter, two vegan mains and they were both pizza, and one vegan dessert (minus ice cream). I do think the world is changing fast, and as lovely as it is to have these options, it would be great if there were more, especially since there are eight starters, nineteen mains and seven desserts.

I ended up choosing the Vegan Beetball Polpette (Pink beetroot ‘beetballs’, oven-baked in a pomodoro sauce with melted Mozzarisella, chilli threads & fresh oregano) for my starter, whilst Zoey opted for Mozzarella & ‘Nduja Trees (Deep fried trangoli pasta, filled with spicy ‘Nduja sausage, mozzarella & burrata. Served with a red pepper tapenade to dip). The beetballs were quite tasty, and it was good to have something a little different on offer, and Zoey enjoyed her trees!

Our festive drinks arrived soon after our food, and it was so tasty! The addition of a festive sprig of rosemary really made the drink – it just smelt of Christmas!

When it came to the main, we both went for pizza. Zoey chose the festive special, Rustica Snowball (Chorizo crumb, crispy pancetta, mozzarella, baby sunblush tomatoes & a whole mozzarella snowball. With crispy sage & riserva cheese), and I opted for the Rustica Jackfruit Italian Hot (Vegan jackfruit pepperoni, spicy harissa, roquito chillis & vegan Mozzarisella cheese, finished with basil). I did ask how spicy it was, but I was told not very, so I ordered with excitement. It was too hot for me though, so I couldn’t eat it all, and the jackfruit pepperoni wasn’t great (and it was mega spicy!). Zoey loved her pizza though, it had lots of flavour and textures…

Soon we were onto dessert, and I chose the only vegan option (apart from ice cream) of a Golden Millionaire’s Slice (A chocolate chip cookie base, topped with layers of salted toffee & chocolate ganache, finished with an indulgent chocolate drizzle and splashes of gold) whilst Zoey opted for the festive choice once more. She chose the Red Velvet Brownie (Red velvet swirled with vanilla cheesecake, sprinkled with white chocolate snowflakes & a cocoa sparkle, & served with a sour cherry sauce in an edible chocolate cup). They looked amazing when they arrived, and we enjoyed trying them out…

Overall, it was fun to try out the Festive Menu at Zizzi through Bookatable. There were a few issues with service (as we were told it was extremely busy), and there could be more vegan options, but we still managed to have a fun Saturday evening. Bookatable was very reliable, easy to use and had plenty of information on the site to make informed decisions at the time of booking.

I really think I’ll be using Bookatable to book future meals in Cardiff, it was perfect for finding festive season menus, and I think it would be perfect for all year round. You can tailor your search, or go for pot luck and still find something perfect for you in your area, and if you’re looking for Christmas Day meals, they’ve got you covered!

Have you used Bookatable? What did you think?
