*WE were given two tickets to attend Supper Clwb, all opinions are 100% honest and my own.

Last Saturday Zoey and I headed to Supper Clwb at Wales Millennium Centre, a weekly rotational event to entertain and feed your mind, body and soul. Read on to find out more and see what we thought of Supper Clwb…

Review: Supper Clwb at Wales Millennium Centre

We love a good date night, so it was an absolute pleasure to take a trip to Cardiff Bay and spend some quality time together. Supper Clwb is Wales Millennium Centre‘s latest addition to their fantastic array of events, and it includes the following lovely treats for £30 per person:

  • A Bellini cocktail on arrival
  • Three small plates from their contemporary Welsh menu
  • A dessert cocktail
  • A live cabaret act

The cabaret acts will run on a rotational basis and include: musical cabaret, burlesque, comedy and drag. These will rotate around so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to see all four types of entertainment.

We arrived just after 7pm, handed over our tickets and collected our bellinis and listened to pianist Robert Young, and we played ‘guess the song’ as he played (I won!). The entertainment continued with Stage Door Johnny as singer and MC. He was absolutely hilarious and so entertaining, with a great reception from the audience (apart from his jokes about the Conservatives which left me feel quite concerned about our company haha!). He had such energy on stage and I couldn’t get enough of him!

The burlesque was split into two sections, and annoyingly, I can’t remember the exact order of performances. However, I do remember each one, so I’ll start with the first performer, Goldie Luxe with her saxophone act. She started the show with a sultry performance, and the audience loved her. Miss Betty Blue Eyes ramped up the hilarity and fun with her operatic performance, I could barely catch my breath as she performed on stage, I was laughing so much! She also performed a classic burlesque piece, dotted with humour, and it was fabulous. I would have loved to have seen more of her, and will keep my ear to the ground for any of her future performances.

We were also entertained by Kitty Katastrophe with her Queen act, a royal performance that made the audience giggle! Vixie Rouge offered up an educational and fun flamingo performance, covered in pink feathers and sending the crowd wild. FooFooLaBelle performed as a beautiful mermaid and Arabella Sparkles performed a cowgirl act, working her way around the audience and whipping them all into shape!

All of the performances were great, from choreography to costumes, they filled the room with gorgeous dances, comedic elements and so much laughter and fun.

However, the food and drinks were a bit disappointing. It is early days for Supper Clwb, so there’s bound to be teething problems. The first issue we had was with the cocktails, both the bellinis and the dessert cocktails were served with all different amounts in each glass. This tended to look messy, and made the evening feel slightly rushed. However, both drinks (especially the dessert cocktail) were absolutely delicious and we could have definitely had more than one of each!

The food was quite disappointing, and for a few reasons. Firstly, the menu is set, you choose either ‘meat’ or ‘vegan’ and you’re given the three small plates from that menu. This means I received polenta and mushrooms, sweet potato curry and a salad. Zoey explained to the lovely man handing out the food that she didn’t like fish, so she received a beef curry, polenta and mushrooms and a salad. The portions were small, and unfortunately the meals that were supposed to hot were lukewarm. We ended up leaving the mushroom and salad dishes because they just didn’t hit the spot (not a fan of polenta or mushrooms, and the salad was lacklustre). We hate wasting food, but if you don’t get a choice in what you’re given, it makes it very difficult when you’re served food you don’t enjoy. They also didn’t feel very ‘suppery’, apart from the sweet potato curry, which was super delicious! I think I would have preferred one large hot plate of this, it was so delicious!

Overall, I’d say £30 for Supper Clwb is amazing value. The cabaret show had two sections and it felt like we were well and truly entertained! The staff were wonderful and kind, and the performers were amazing. If the food and drinks are tweaked slightly, I think this could be one heck of an amazing night out. It would be perfect for hen do’s, anniversaries, or just an excuse for an inexpensive night out in the Bay! Even with wine included (to drink throughout the night), you’re looking at £45 maximum per person, and you get so much for your money. I really would recommend Supper Clwb as the perfect way to spend a Saturday night, we giggled and howled, ate and drank, and just had a really lovely night out.
