It’s a good idea to prepare your garden for the winter months now that the summer is coming to a slow end. That’s not to say you need to pack everything away right now of course, you decide when the time is right, because you still have a good couple of months where enjoying your time outside in your green space is more than justified. Even then, no one can tell you what schedule to follow when it comes to your own property.
Yet it’s also a good idea to prepare your garden for the harsher climate because otherwise, it might be that certain implements and fixtures you have there could become damaged. Store Equipment & Tools
Storing your equipment and tools in a garden shed is appropriate during the winter months, because otherwise the moisture and exposure to the elements may damage them or cause rust. For instance, your garden tools, wheelbarrows, and other equipment should be placed in a sheltered area, properly protected as necessary. Tarpaulin covers can also be used to prevent animals from using equipment, like upturned wheelbarrows, as a place to nest. This way, you can preserve their use for the next year. It can also be healthy to stock up on parts when necessary, as when your yard machine equipment breaks down, fix it yourself to undo the damage of the long term weather exposure.
Cover Garden Furniture
Garden furniture also operates under the same maintenance principles as your tools and equipment, but it’s harder for you to store all of this inside thanks to its bulk. For that reason, the aforementioned tarpaulin sheets can be very useful. Make sure to tie this off at the ends or weigh it down using whatever comes to hand and can be applied safely, as this will help the tarpaulin stay put even in winter conditions. Of course, that tarpaulin can also be used as a useful windbreaker where necessary, too.
Stock Up On Winter Care Goods
Stocking up on winter care goods can help you avoid being caught out in a snowstorm or in other extreme weather. For instance, having some gritted salt handy you can use to provide traction to and melting the black ice on your driveway or in your cul de sac can, quite literally, save lives. This is especially true if you have a steep driveway, as the last thing you need is to be in danger the moment you release your handbrake. This can also prevent your garden path from being too slippy during the winter. Furthermore, having a retractable pole to hand can help you knock off icicles that may form underneath the overhang of your roof.
