5 Ways to Protect Your Hair from Wind Damage

*Collaborative post

The wind can feel great. On a hot day, a warm breeze can make the temperature feel more bearable. In the middle of winter, it can feel exhilarating to feel the wind on your face.

Unfortunately, the wind is also very effective at drying out your hair. This means the moisture has gone, leaving your hair brittle and without its usual shine. The result is hair that is easily damaged, difficult to style, and probably has an array of split ends. In short, it won’t look great.

Fortunately, you can protect your hair from wind damage.

  1. Moisturizing Conditioner

Perhaps the most obvious starting point is to look at products designed to protect your hair in winter. The best place to start is by looking at the array of Olaplex products available.

You’ll find something that matches every type of hair and the products are natural. You don’t have to worry about what chemicals you are adding to your hair!

One of the best products you can choose from the range is a moisturizing conditioner. Apply this in the shower after you’ve shampooed your hair. You’ll need to leave the conditioner in place for a few minutes to give the products time to soak in. It will hydrate your hair and seal the moisture in, helping to keep it hydrated even when you are in the cold winter breeze.

  1. Dry First If Possible

Damp hair is heavier. This means it is more likely to break when brushed and it is more likely to lose moisture, especially if you are heading outside. The cold air outside has little moisture in it. When it gets near your warm hair the air will warm slightly and, in the process, suck moisture from your hair.

This leaves your hair feeling dry and brittle. If possible, it’s better to make sure your hair is fully dry before leaving the house.

  1. Minimize Hair Washing

Washing your hair is important, it’s how you remove the dirt and debris that attaches itself to your hair strands. However, too much washing means you are more likely to damage each of those strands. That leaves you with tired-looking hair.

In addition, if you use the wrong products you may even be stripping goodness from your hair. It’s better to wash it every other day as this decreases the damage and allows it to shine naturally.

  1. Wear A Hat

If the cold wind damages your hair then the most obvious solution is to get a hat and wear it when you’re out. Of course, you’ll need to find one that suits your outfit and the occasion. It also needs to be wearable without disrupting your style. Otherwise, you won’t be able to take it off!

  1. Trim It

Another easy way to reduce split ends and wind damage is to make sure you visit your hairdresser regularly. They can trim your hair and this helps to keep the rest of your hair healthy, even when the wind is cold.
