Mobile Phones for Kids: Save Money and Stay Safe
Today on the blog I’m talking about mobile phones for kids, and how to save money and stay safe! George is obsessed with technology, from tablets to consoles, he’d love to have them all. So I thought I’d write a title post about how to keep mobile phone costs to a minimum, as well as how you can keep your child safe…
Mobile Phones for Kids: Save Money and Stay Safe
It’s coming, I know it is, and I’d prefer to be prepared for it than panic when he says, ‘Can I have a mobile phone please?’. Now, I’m not saying I’ll rush out and buy him a phone, but I do feel the need to be prepared…
Save Money
There are so many ways to save money, you just need to be a bit thrifty to make it happen. Firstly, I’d seriously consider using one of your old phones. A few years ago I sent my old phone off for refurbishment, having wiped it and then the phone company saying they would do the same, I was shocked to see the new owner trying to hack into my accounts! So I’ve since kept hold of my old phones, because I’m too scared to risk it! This means I have a couple of phones knocking about the place, and sometimes George and Molly use them to play games on, however there is a nice and simple way of converting them!
It would be super easy to purchase on of these sim only deals and simply use it with one of your old phones! I love this idea because it means you can pay what you can, compared to a monthly fee and contract. This would save you money and also there wouldn’t be a long term commitment = win win!
Stay Safe
It’s so important to keep safe when using mobile phones. Back in the day it was all about phone calls and texts, but now there’s so much on a mobile phone that it’s hard to keep track!
Here are some tips for your kids staying safe whilst using their mobile phones…
-
Link any social accounts so you can keep track of any odd messages or strange communication
-
Pop a tracker on the phone so you know where your children are when they’re out and about
-
Put a lock on the phone so no one can access it except you and your child
-
Talk to your children about online bullying
-
Talk about not answering calls to unknown numbers
-
Talk about not giving out their mobile number or send photos to strangers
At the end of the day, technology is the future, so it’s all about educating and guiding our children, not hiding these things from them. So having a plan, as well as lots of information, is key to having a healthy future where mobile phones are concerned.
