Thursday night Warren and I headed to the beautiful No 10 Cardiff on Cathedral Road to try out their pre-theatre menu. It’s so lovely to have an excuse to have a little date night with Warren, and we were really excited to see how No 10 would accommodate for different dietary requirements.
Pre-Theatre Dinner at No 10 Cardiff
We arrived just after 5.30pm in order to try out their three course menu before heading to see Fiddler on the Roof at Everyman’s Open Air Theatre in Sophia Gardens. It’s the perfect place to eat before catching one of the outdoor theatre shows because you can nip through there back gate and hop straight into the theatre within minutes!
We were greeted by very friendly staff and shown to our table. It was so lovely to have such a warm welcome and to feel at ease whilst enjoying a delicious meal. We were given a vegan and vegetarian menu and we were both very surprised and impressed by the selection on offer.
No 10 is incredibly accommodating and if you contact them a few days in advance they can do their best to deal with any dietary requirements. You can choose from 2 courses for £16.95 or 3 courses for £19.95. Our menu consisted of:
We had a little nosey at the menus on offer and Warren plumped for the Tomato & Roasted Pepper Soup to start whilst I couldn’t resist the Crisp Flatbreads and Spice Hummus…
We wolfed the starters down and we were majorly impressed with how fresh everything tasted. It was quite simply a joy to eat such pleasant and appetising food in a glorious location. The sun was shining in through the windows and it was lovely to spend such intimate time with Warren…
For our mains, we went for a Ever Changing Superfood Salad with Fried Tofu and Thai Green Curry to share. We’re only just starting to dip into the world of tofu, so I was a little nervous to try it, but it was actually quite nice; it was flavoured with basil and I adore basil so it went down very well. I also loved the use of quinoa within the salad – so delicious!
I think overall I prefered the Thai Green Curry, it was spicy and full of baby corn (one of my favourites!), but if tofu is your bag then you’ll love the salad! The portion sizes were also very generous and I soon began to worry about fitting in dessert!
Warren and I decided to try out the two different options, Strawberry Sorbet with Macerated Strawberries & Coulis, and Poached Plum, Ginger & Coconut Fool. When they arrived we were both stunned. They were so visually stunning and tasted incredibly delicious. Both dishes are vegan, thanks to the use of coconut cream!
The sorbet came with juicy strawberries and little strawberry beads that pop in your mouth and burst with delicious flavour. As for the plum pudding, I cannot tell you how delicious it tasted. I couldn’t believe it was vegan, it was so incredibly creamy and more-ish.
We had a lovely evening at No 10. We spent quality time together in a lovely environment with delicious food and drink. The seating (inside and out) is well laid out and incredibly comfortable. I love the clean cut style of No 10 and I can definitely recommend trying out their food ahead of the Open Air shows this summer!
