I don’t know about you, but as soon as the sun goes away for the winter, I feel a little sad. It’s like the sun breathes life into my soul, and without it I become a little bit of a sad hermit. I know, I should (and I do!) embrace the winter months by wrapping myself up in cosy jumpers, scarves and mitts and drinking hot chocolates whilst watching Elf on repeat…
BUT, there is a HUGE part of me that just wants to pack up a suitcase and hit the beach with the kids! I know I could dream of a wintry escape too, but when I see all these families on their gorgeous sun holidays, I can’t help but want to join them!
Imagine lying on the beach with a cocktail, knowing full well that back home it hasn’t snowed and you don’t have to put the bins out. That’s my kinda holiday. One where we can go exploring in the sunshine without the pressure of buying and wrapping lots of gifts.
I’m not saying I’ve got SAD (although Warren would disagree!), but I kinda like the idea of kicking the commercialism in the butt and jetting off to another country to discover other ways of celebrating Christmas. I dream of the day we pack our things up and head to the airport, safe in the knowledge that winter will come with a suntan and not a head-cold.
And I know for a fact that George and Molly would love it! Playing in the sand verses chapped lips and winter blues any day, right? I can see them running along the beach and not caring for the overload of commercial Christmas back home in the UK. I don’t think any of us would complain about a break from the norm, and dreaming big is a pretty fun pastime!
I can see it so clearly, the dream winter holiday in the sun…
But (f0r now) I know it’s never going to happen. It’s certainly not within our reach anytime soon, but it’s just so nice to dream. To imagine ourselves having an actual break from the pressure of Christmas and all the negative stuff that comes with it.
So for now we’ll enjoy our winter weather, we’ll huddle together to keep warm on those long dark nights, we’ll sing carols and unwrap gifts and I will be happy to dream about our winter break in the sun. Because one day, it just might happen…
Would you like to go on a sun holiday this Christmas?
