What Influences a Child’s Chances of Success?

*Collaborative post

We all want our children to be successful. Alas, it often feels as if this is always tantalizingly out of reach; while we can hope and hope and hope, this is ultimately an issue for the broader world, an area where we have minimal sway (unless you happen to be rich or famous; in which case, disregard). While we can’t guarantee that our children will be successful later in life, there are things we can do that can help to push them in the right direction. If we put all the right pieces in place, then they’ll be more likely to make their dreams come true. In this blog, we take a look at the factors that have the biggest influence on a person’s success.

Home Environment

Our home environment has a tremendous impact on our lives, both when we’re younger and when we’re adults. There’s a big difference between the prospects of a child that grows up in a stable, loving home, and one that grows up in an unstable and chaotic home. And we probably don’t need to tell you which of these children would fare better. In fact, studies have shown that stability is one of the most important factors when it comes to success in later life (in various areas of life).

Diet and Exercise

We’re beginning to understand more and more just how interconnected our minds and bodies are. If we’re eating well, and getting enough exercise and sleep, then we’ll be in a much better position to perform at our highest level. Alas, if healthy values aren’t instilled in a child early on, then things become more difficult — they’re harder to pick up later on. As such, be sure to take your child’s health and fitness seriously. They might want chocolate, but you’ll be giving them a lifelong gift by teaching them how to eat well instead.

School System

Of course, the home is only one environment that contributes towards your child’s success. You’ll put the foundations for success in place, but it’ll be at school where they’ll begin to walk the path that’ll lead to long-term success. A good secondary school can lead to a good university, which leads to a good job, and so on. So take extra care when deciding where to send them to school, and find out which schools perform the best. You’ll find some of the best school results from Leicester High School for Girls, for instance. As well as results, you’ll also want to check which extracurricular activities they offer — though they are less important than academic results, they can play a big role in the development of a child, and they can help a person discover their passion, too.

Model Parents

Finally, remember that your child will be heavily influenced by their parents! And it’s not just about what they say — it’s what they do, how they behave, and essentially who they are. As such, it can be worthwhile looking at yourself and checking whether you’re promoting values that would lead to a successful and happy life
