Moving House with Children: 5 Ways to Ease the Stress
We have lived in 11 different homes over the past 10 years, and it’s been quite the learning curve when it comes to moving! I thought it would be a good idea to pop together a helpful list of ways to ease the stress whilst moving house with children, read on to find out my top tips…
1. Get organised
From making lists to finding storage boxes, getting organised is key. One of the first things to do is to book someone to move with, as it will ease a lot of stress whilst going through the process of moving House, using
The Man Van will definitely tick a major task off your list! On top of this make sure you have a list of all the people you need to contact and inform about your change of address.
2. Get packing!
The best way to pack is to start working through one room at a time. Pick the items that you don’t need everyday, such as trinkets, paintings, photographs, out of season clothing and so on. This will really make a dent on the packing side of things!
3. Have a declutter
Getting rid of unwanted bits and bobs will help you in so many ways. Firstly, you might be able to help someone out by giving them your old curtains or a piece of furniture you no longer need, secondly you will have less to move on your moving day, and thirdly you will have more space in your house so you can focus on the important tasks ahead of the big day.
4. Get the kids involved
Work with your children to pack their own things. George and Molly absolutely love packing all their own things into big cardboard boxes, they see it as a pretty fun task! They could also be encouraged to have a mini clear out of their own whilst doing it!
5. Ask for help
Ask family members or friends if they can help out with the children on moving day. If your children are in school then try to sort out how you’ll deal with taking them there and collecting them. If, like us, your children are at home, figure out some sort of childcare, and if not try to get someone to help you move on the day. This means you’ll have more time to sort the kids! Don’t forget, they’ll probably want to help out on the day moving boxes, so why not let them?!
