How You Can Look After Your Own Welfare
*Collaborative post
Sometimes you forget to look after your own general welfare when you are a busy working mum with a family to look after. You are so busy making sure that your little ones and partner are all ok that you might put your own well being last. Although you think you might be acting selflessly, it is important to look after yourself as well so that you are keeping your physical and mental health in tip top condition.
Find Time To Relax
Work can certainly be overwhelming at times so you need to try and fit in some ‘me time’ at some point during the week. This is particularly true when you have little ones to look after as it can be quite tiring and hectic, balancing work life with family time. You probably find that you rarely have a quiet moment to yourself, but it is important to try and make time. Whether it is sitting comfortably and reading a good book, making a dish you enjoy, snuggling on the sofa to binge watch a series you haven’t seen like I May Destroy You or going for a run to clear your head, you need to try and incorporate at least one thing that you enjoy each week. Otherwise you might get more irritated and stressed with the rest of your family.
Eating Good, Healthy Foods
The types of food that you consume can have an effect on your mood and overall health. Naturally you want to opt for more healthy foods such as plenty of fruit and vegetables whilst also incorporating all the other important nutritious elements that you need in your diet.
Create a Relaxing Environment at Home
The cleanliness and tidiness of your home can also contribute to your overall well being. So even little things like making sure you get enough natural daylight, or living in a clutter free environment can have positive effects on your mood and general wellbeing. So if you can create a healthy and happy environment at home to live in, this is going to have a positive effect on your mood and health, which is certainly important.
Pursue Your Own Interests
If you have certain hobbies and dreams or of shifting your career into a different direction then now is the time to start making some changes. Yes you may need that stable job that helps you to pay your bills each month, but if you can also pursue interests or hobbies that you genuinely enjoy whilst also being paid for it, then it is a win, win situation.
You might have a particular creative skill that you could use to create new products, or perhaps you want to write about your travels or to teach others a new skill such as cooking and baking. Whatever the pursuit may be, it is important to try and find the time to incorporate it into your routine so that you can spend time on the hobbies that interest you most.
Get Some Exercise
It doesn’t need to be an intense gym workout, but making sure you can go out for walks so that you are getting fresh air and moving around is certainly beneficial. Gentle exercise such as going for walks can have positive effects on your mental and physical welfare. This is particularly important if you spend the majority of your time sitting at your desk, staring at a laptop screen, to complete your work tasks. You need to find a bit of time during your week where you can get outdoors for a brisk walk in the fresh air to really reap the rewards it will bring.
Sleeping Well
Ensuring you get enough good quality sleep will help you get through your week and make sure you are fighting fit to look after your family. It is not necessarily how many hours you get but the quality of the sleep that will have positive benefits. So creating a nice relaxing environment in your bedroom to promote sleep will help you drift off peacefully.
Plan an Activity To Look Forward To
Although you may have found it difficult to plan events in advance so far this year it is still nice to be able to have something positive to look forward to. So whether it is a day out with the family, a nice staycation break in an area of the country you have not been to before or a new sports activity, try and book something you would enjoy in advance, that way you have something positive to look forward to.
Stay Connected
You might be fed up with Zoom calls by now, but finding ways to keep in contact with friends and family is beneficial for your overall well being. It provides you with the opportunity to discuss your feelings and vent any frustration out. It also helps to maintain your relationships by keeping up to date on each other’s lives. Plus if you are feeling slightly overwhelmed or stressed you have the opportunity to discuss anything that is troubling you or providing you with stress which is certainly important for you general well being.
It can be a lot easier than you think to try and incorporate ways to look after your general wellbeing. It does not just need to be the type of food that you consume, but can cover a wide variety of topics such as getting enough rest, creating ‘me time’ during the week, maintaining a tidy, clean home and staying connected with loved ones. If you can at least try to incorporate some of these examples then you will certainly be doing wonders for your physical and mental health.
