Famous Libraries From Around The World
*Collaborative post
We owe a great deal to the people that came before us. While we may have the benefit of things like the internet, air-conditioning, telephones, cars and so on, it’s not as if the reason we have them is that we’re so smart. It’s because we were able to build upon the foundations that were laid by history’s pioneers. In this sense, we are truly standing on the shoulders of giants.
Yet while we must give our thanks to the people who paved the way for our success, we must also doff our caps at the institutions that made their knowledge possible: libraries. The discoveries of people in the past would have been worthless if they hadn’t been written down and catalogued for future generations to read and understand. For this reason, libraries stand as one of the best concepts that humans have had. The oldest date back thousands of years, though sadly, they’re no longer functional. Not that we don’t have outstanding libraries today — we absolutely do. How about the world’s largest, The Library of Congress, or the small but mighty British Library? These and others are treasure troves of delights, home to some of the most important books and documents of human history.
