Moving House: 5 Top Tips and Advice
*Collaborative post
We’ve moved house a lot over the years, and it seems another move may be around the corner. I thought I’d write a little post about my moving house top tips and advice, to help any of you out there who may need some direction for your next house move.
Moving House: 5 Top Tips and Advice
Moving house can be stressful, so it’s nice to take the pressure off by feeling organised. These are the main things to focus on pre-house move, to save you the stress and sleepless nights in the build up ot the big day…
#1 Sort out the van!
Sorting out and arranging a removal company can be a stressful part of the process, whether you’re opting for a man with a van or a removal van, make sure you pick the right vehicle and procedures for your personal needs. For example, if you don’t need to move a lot of stuff or you have friends helping on the day, then keeping it simple makes sense and saves you money. If you’re a disorganised mess then hiring someone to do it all is the better option by far!
#2 Have a clearout
Clearing out all your junk and selling stuff you don’t need will make moving easier and create money for your move. It also means you can help others by donating your unused bits to a homeless shelter or charity shop.
#3 Leave the cleaning
Don’t clean whilst you’re packing. If you do and it rains on moving day, you could risk a whole lot of muddy feet entering your old home. Wait until you move everything out before you get your marigolds out!
#4 Organise a temporary box/suitcase
Having a box full of the things you really need (kettle, teabags) as well as a suitcase (clothes, pants, socks) for the period before, during and after the move is essential. You can use these things without worrying about the essentials.
#5 Make a list!
Make a list of all the things you need to do as well as a list for address changes. You will feel super organised just by making the list, I promise!
I hope you’ve found this post informative and helpful, and if all else fails, sit down with a cuppa and focus on #5!
