Poem: Within and Without You (A Poem for My Wife)
It’s World Stationery Day and I thought I’d share a poem I wrote recently for Zoey, my wonderful wife. I hope you enjoy reading it…
Within You, Without You
Rising from the ashes,
gender clashes,
flashes of crimson
drip to the ground.
The sound of peeling skin,
within and without you…
The pain is temporary.
No choice or decision,
a vision of the real you.
My heart swells
as each of your cells
blossom and bloom.
Your true self emerging,
reborn,
you’re torn into two.
The real you escapes,
your disguise cast to the ground.
A phoenix from the flames,
you come to me.
Open up your wings,
and tuck me within you.
Your eyes speak in whispers,
but I hear every word.
I’ve longed to meet you,
my love.
And high above,
the universe rejoices.
Glittering stars,
birdsong,
joyous voices;
and you are whole again.
