Don’t Let The Isolation Get To You In Lockdown
*Collaborative post
There’s little doubt that the current pandemic and the lockdown measures that resulted from it have lasted quite a lot longer than many of us expected and they look to be continuing for quite some time. This is the kind of thing that can be incredibly frustrating for a lot of people because let’s face it, lockdown has been a pretty rotten time for almost all of us. It’s the kind of situation that makes it very easy to feel tired, frustrated, and miserable. However, if this is something that we’re all going to be dealing with for some time to come, making the most of it is incredibly important. With that in mind, here are some ways to avoid letting the isolation get to you in lockdown.
Stay Connected to the People Who Matter
The hardest thing about lockdown is undoubtedly the ways in which many of us are completely removed from the people who we are about the most. However, just because you can’t be around the people you love, doesn’t mean that you can’t stay connected to them. It could be letting someone on the other side of the world know you’re thinking about them with international flowers delivered to their door, or setting up a regular Zoom call so that you and your loved ones can keep each other updated. There are dozens of ways to keep those connections strong no matter how long we’re all stuck inside.
Find Ways to Relax
Lockdown has proven that it’s possible for something as simple as just staying inside your house to become a source of stress for a lot of people. But if you reach the point where just being at home is stressing you out, that’s going to cause problems. Because of that, the best thing that you can do is to try and find some ways to relax. Of course, what those ways are will be completely up to you. Curl up on the couch and binge a show you love. Run a hot bath and soak for hours. Get dressed up just because you can. There are so many options and it just comes down to the ways that you prefer to relax.
Stop Doomscrolling
You may or may not have heard the term “doomscrolling” before but regardless of whether you’re familiar with it, you’ve almost certainly done it. The concept of doomscrolling is simply spending extended periods of time on social media scrolling through all of the terrible news stories that appear every day. There’s something strangely compelling about seeing all of the terrible things that are happening in the world but the truth is that doing this is just going to make you feel miserable. Sometimes putting down Twitter for a while really is the best thing you can do for yourself.
The reality is that, given the situation that we’re all in, the idea of trying to get something positive out of this situation can feel pretty remote. However, that doesn’t mean that you need to spend the entire time feeling lonely and miserable. By taking just a few simple steps you can make sure that you’re able to avoid being completely isolated and frustrated while we wait for this whole situation to end.
