The Full Moon Rum Festival Cardiff

I’ve always wanted to be a pirate, so when I heard about The Full Moon’s Rum Festival I couldn’t resist finding out more… The Full Moon is a fab venue, one of my favourites in Cardiff, and this weekend they are holding their annual Rum Festival – and everyone is invited!
The event will run for three days, Friday is pirate themed, Saturday is Cuban night and Sunday is Caribbean night. They will have over 100 types of rum behind the bar, there will be live music and the best bit? Free entry!
The lovely Amy arranged for us to pop along last night to try out their selection of rums, cocktails and to learn all about the Pirate’s tipple…

My mother moved into her own place yesterday so it was nice to take her along to see what was in store for her new hometown this weekend and to celebrate her housemove in style!
The welcome we received was pretty awesome. I was invited to choose a cocktail of my choice and I plumped for their Rum Punch, a mixture of Kraken rum and pineapple juice finished off with an orange slice and ice! It was absolutely delicious and definitely my favourite from the menu.

Later in the evening we were able to see one of the staff prepare the drink, which was pretty fascinating viewing! He was, like all the staff there, really passionate about his work (and rum!) and it’s this kinda attitude that makes a place in my honest opinion.
We also tried out the Rum & Ting, which was super refreshing and thirst quenching (I don’t think I’ve ever said that about alcohol before!) This drink is a combination of Kraken rum, Grenadine soda, lime and ice.
The cocktails are only £6 each and they have TWO shots of rum in them- absolute bargain!

Basically, after attending this event, I’m a total rum convert. It’s amazing, and somewhat more-ish, especially when coupled with a fruit juice and ice! Since last night I’ve decided to invest in a decent bottle of rum and try out my own cocktails at home, because they are simply gorgeous!
Even if you decide rum isn’t your thing, there is always their classic ‘Green Shit’, 2 for £6, which is so tasty, and I challenge any of you to work out the ingredients, because we couldn’t!
This is an awesome venue, with people that know what they’re talking about… It’s definitely the place to be this bank holiday!
So, if you’re stuck for ideas this weekend, or you just fancy being a pirate, head on down to The Full Moon Rum Festival and be prepared to rock your tastebuds as you become rum converts at the hands of the talented and passionate staff.
