Review: Chicago Blues Brothers at St David’s Hall.
*Thank you to CBB and St David’s Hall for tickets to the show.

Last night Warren and I headed out to catch the Chicago Blues Brothers in concert at St David’s Hall, Cardiff. We had such a fantastic evening and I’m excited to share some thoughts I have about the show with you here on the blog today…

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this show, having adored the movie since I first saw it (many years ago!), but I was really excited to get the chance to bop along to the awesome collection of songs!

When the show began I wasn’t fully convinced I’d enjoy it, but within minutes Elwood and Jake had the audience hooked. They had incredible stage presence, with lots of movement and music to make everyone bop along in their seats. There was an issue with one of their microphones, but they styled it out and it was handled with professionalism and charm.

The first half was a bit mellow compared to the second half. I loved some of the more upbeat songs and when they played Shake a Tail Feather Warren and I had an awesome time dancing along. Warren thought the band, and in particular the trumpet player, were excellent; he kept telling me how good they were which made me enjoy the show even more.

I didn’t feel the vocals matched the movie, but this didn’t detract from the overall performance, which was energetic and full of laughs. There was one scene involving a James Brown cover from the film that felt slightly off (we didn’t feel overly comfortable with this part), but this could be down to personal taste.

The show was enjoyable and fun, with lots of laughter and dancing – we certainly danced our socks off!

I think if you’re a fan of the Blues Brothers film, then this show will definitely bring back some good memories from the movie.
