Festival Fever With Depot in the Park!

The
festival vibe has well and truly hit the Allen household, so when we
were offered tickets to review Depot in the Park we couldn’t wait!
Warren and George headed off camping Saturday afternoon, but not
before dropping Molly, Nanny Kim and I off at SSE Swalec in Sophia Gardens to share
in the delights on offer from Depot!

The
sun was shining and the atmosphere as we entered the festival was
energetic and really exciting. We received wristbands and made our
way towards the centre of the festivities to get an idea of what was
happening where.

The layout was really well thought out, with the
food and drink vans in one area next to the large bar area, the
children’s activities all in one area and the main stage facing the
large grassy area, allowing for visitors to settle down with picnic
blankets and camping chairs whilst enjoying the live entertainment.

The
SSE Swalec as a venue is fantastic, perfect for this kind of festival,
with just the right amount of space, greenery as well as toilet a
hop, skip and a jump away from all the fun. There were also large
bins placed around the grounds, so rubbish wasn’t an issue as we
wandered around and enjoyed what was on offer.

Our
first stop was the NoFit State area, where Molly spotted one of her
favourite teachers setting up. Once they were ready we all hopped
inside the circus-fuelled area and got stuck in with plate spinning
and hula-hooping! Nanny Kim was in her element and there was a lot of
laughter as we tried out various skills and it was great seeing so
many people take part! I love NoFit State’s energy and enthusiasm; it
spreads like wildfire and makes everyone so excited and happy!

After the energetic circus activities, we
were super lucky to be able to sample some delicious doughnut
delights from The Early Bird Bakery van whilst we were there. We were given
their popular nutella and apple pots to try out (£5 each) and they
are basically fluffy balls of dough with a deliciously thick sauce
drizzled over the top. I really didn’t know what to expect, they
looked amazing, but as we all bit into them we were totally blown
away. Molly adored the apple flavoured ones and we didn’t get much of
a look in, but that’s okay because I loved the nutella ones! There’s
also a strawberry option, one we will have to try another time!

The
Early Bird Bakery is such a cute concept, and you certainly get your money’s
worth! I love that they use locally milled flour, organic Welsh dairy and free range eggs and I’m keeping my eyes peeled for their next event because
they’re so delicious!

Molly’s
favourite part of the day was definitely the craft tent. There were
different things on offer, such as t-shirt printing (£5), a
dress up corner and a chance to be gorgeously glittered up by Dizzy Pineapple (these
guys were so in demand!). Her favourite part though was the mask
making, where she indulged in glue and glitter and just had a really
lovely time. The staff were really sweet and helpful and it’s great
that most of the activities in this area were free.

There
was also a cute storytelling tent, but we didn’t arrive early enough
to catch it because of all the other great things going on. It looked
like it would have been so much fun though, with huge pillows for the
children to crash out on whilst listening to their favourite tales…
The
music was on a large stage facing the grass and I really appreciated
that it wasn’t crazy loud, so Molly could actually enjoy herself
without her ears hurting. It was the perfect volume and they played
pop music in between the live acts. Depot had managed to secure a
selection of various performers, from The Sugar Hill Gang to The Limited, there was something for
everyone. We sat and listened to it together on the grass in the
sunshine and it felt like we were a million away from the real world.
Depot
definitely knew what they were doing when they put this day together,
from children’s activities to entertainment for all, it was well
thought out, well organised and so much fun!
I
can’t wait to see what Depot come up with next!
