Book Review: White Lies by Ellie Holmes.

Book Review: White Lies by Ellie Holmes.

love getting stuck into a good book, so when I was offered the chance
to review White Lies by Ellie Holmes I simply couldn’t wait! The
story follows Sam and Neil Davenport in the wake of a terrible car
accident. With tensions high between the couple after Neil’s
one-night stand, Sam is drawn into a situation of her own and their
relationship is thrown into dangerous territory.

story is well explained, from Neil’s deception to Sam’s temptations,
we’re given the chance to see their situation from both characters
point of view. Obviously I don’t want to give the full story away,
but the opening scene involves a car accident which later leads to
Sam risking her relationship as she grows closer to victim, David.

books that hook you from the start, and for me White Lies by Ellie
Holmes did just that. I completely fell in love with Ellie’s writing
style, her rich descriptions and well formed characters pulled me
into the story from the start and I couldn’t wait to see how the
story would unfold.

really loved the pace of the book; I had no idea where the story was
going but it kept my interest 100%. I really loved Sam in the
beginning whilst disliking Neil, and as the book continued these
feelings reversed. I really loved how Ellie’s writing made my
opinions of the two characters change; it shows skill and creativity
to make someone flip their opinions on the main characters.

story becomes full of tiny white lies as her own insecurities with
her husband force her into the arms of David. Although I could
empathise with Sam’s situation and history with her husband, there
were times when I wanted to shake her and tell her to tell her
husband everything.

really loved the book as a whole, the only thing I was disappointed
with was the lack of darkness from David. His character could have
been so much more menacing, especially with regards to his actions in
the first half of the book. I actually found his unusual actions
(drugging Sam etc) incredibly interesting in terms of a fictional
story, and I would have liked more of this. But at the same time, I
liked that the story focused on his mental illness and the kindness
and understanding of Sam as a character.

think Ellie Holmes is one heck of a talented writer, and White Lies
is certainly a memorable read. You can get a copy from Amazon for £9.99.
Disclosure: I received this book in exchange for review. All opinions are 100% honest and my own.
