Book Review: One Christmas Wish by Katherine Rundell.

Boolino recently sent us One Christmas Wish by Katherine Rundell and I have to say, from the moment I saw it I fell in love. We all love a good Christmas story, it brings warmth to our hearts and ones like this radiate festive charm and delight.

Firstly, I need to point out how excited we are about Christmas, how every year it gets more and more exciting (George and Molly might actually pop this year if we’re not careful!). As part of our Christmas celebrations we love to read lots of Christmas themed books, and One Christmas Wish is a beautiful addition to our growing collection.

One Christmas Wish follows Theo, a young boy who, left with a sleeping babysitter, makes a ‘wish for someone to be with’ on Christmas Eve. Without realising it, Theo brings four Christmas decorations to life and they create an adventure whilst keeping Theo company whilst bringing his parents back to him in time for Christmas.

We read this book over two nights but I think it could easily be read in one session, at any time of day, it’s just delightful. It’s a really nice length for a cosy bedtime or anytime during the day, encouraging everyone to sit and read together whilst finding all the hidden gems within each illustration.

The writing is super accessible, and at times had us all laughing! I love how nostalgic and old fashioned it feels, with beautiful descriptions and a story that’s quite simply the real message for Christmas.

We enjoyed every moment of reading it, watching Theo embark on his adventure with his new found friends. I particularly adored the Robin and his need for singing lessons, he is such a delightful character and we’re totally obsessed with robins so it made us love him more!

One Christmas Wish is definitely a keeper and it will be read every year in this house. It’s vintage feel is enough to make you want to dive in and read, and once you’re in Theo’s world the magic and the loveliness that follows fits the festive vibe perfectly.

This book is simply delightful and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it to George and Molly. We devoured the words and the beautiful illustrations and we were left wanting more (we’re begging for a sequel please!).

You can get your very own copy here for just £9.74 (RRP £14.99).

Disclosure: I received this book in exchange for review. All opinions are 100% honest and my own.
