BLOC Hotel & The Electric Cinema Date Night!

About a
month or so ago
Nanny Kim spotted an awesome summer hotel and cinema deal in Birmingham, and
within minutes I’d booked in for Warren and I to head to my home town
for his 36th
birthday. BLOC Hotel
have teamed up with The Electric (a very
quirky cinema a
stone’s throw from the centre of Brum) to
offer a night’s stay for two people, a taxi to the Electric, two
cinema tickets and £10 bar tab, all for £65 (ends 31st August 2017)!

It’s
such a bargain and both venues are outstanding, so it’s hard to say
no to such a great deal. The Electric has such a special place in our
hearts, from hosting my Dad’s charity event all those years ago in
association with Macmillan, to hearing all the tales of my Father and
Tom, the proprietor, as the historical cinema was revamped and
re-imagined before it opened again in 2004.

We
arrived in Birmingham on Friday afternoon and headed straight to
Mission Burrito. After a tasty lunch it was time to find Bloc and
check-in. Bloc is located within the picturesque area known as the
Jewellery Quarter, one of our favourite places to have a decent night
out!

We found
it pretty easily, but parking was a bit of an issue due to the height
of Warren’s van. We ended up using an outdoor council run car park
about a five minute walk from the hotel. When we arrived we were
greeted by super friendly staff, given our room key and all the finer
details of the cinema deal. I’m such a worrier, but BLOC have it all
sorted and before we knew it a taxi had been arranged and it was time
for us to get ready!
We were
upgraded to an apartment for our stay (not part of the cinema and hotel offer), and I have to say, they are
well worth the money! With a sink, fridge and all the bits you’d need
in their mini kitchen as well as a sofa, table and TV in the main
part of the room, you can spread out, relax and enjoy! We didn’t want
to leave once we’d arrived!

In the
bedroom there was another TV as well as touch-screen controls and an
en-suite bathroom with sink, toilet and shower. It was very plush
indeed!

We
relaxed in style, I loved the monochrome style and how they’ve
branded different items in the apartment, such as the light shade and
mugs, it felt so detailed and really in keeping with their bold yet
simplistic branding.
Time
flew and it was soon time to get our taxi to The Electric. We
literally hopped in after giving the driver our name and off we went.
We had a lovely chat with the driver, he was so friendly and helpful!

The
Electric is just one of those super cool places everybody needs to go
during their lifetime. It’s so different and quirky, and their
passion for film is beyond obvious. We were so excited to be back,
it’s a place that reminds us of my Dad and his dedication to film,
and it was so fab to see his DVD on sale in the foyer.

We handed over our voucher (handed to us at Bloc reception) and received our tickets and a £10 tab. It felt really special and as we made our way to the screen we couldn’t help but get excited to see the movie! We watched It Comes at Night, and it was quite a jumpy one. I also cried a few times too, something I don’t often do with horrors (actually I do haha!).
The
Electric has so much charm, and the staff are so friendly, we were
pretty sad when we had to leave.
We had
such a great time, and afterwards we headed to Handmade Burger Co for
some delicious dinner. Later we met with my very best friend and her
lovely boyfriend for a couple of drinks in the Jewellery Quarter and
then back to our hotel.
As soon
as our heads hit the pillow it was morning and time for a cuppa in
the cute kitchen before we checked out and tried out Browns Brasserie & Bar
before heading home.
We had a
fantastic stay in Birmingham and we were really sad to leave. I think
if this fab deal is still available in the future we will definitely
book again!
This was
a great way to start our monthly date nights out, so much fun and
fantastic company.
