Warren’s Birthday at Breakout Cardiff!

Last week marked Warren’s 35th year on this fascinating planet, and to celebrate we were lucky enough to try out the fabulous Breakout Cardiff.

Breakout is situated in the Brewery Quarter, just off St Mary’s and Caroline Street. Nestled within the fantastic restaurants and pubs, you can start your night off in style by breaking out of one of their fantastic rooms!

They have four rooms, Classified 1 and 2, Sabotage and Cursed Carnival. We were super excited to battle it out, two teams in separate identical rooms (Classified 1 and 2) which have a 50% success rate. Prices range from £12 to £17 per person depending on how many people you have in your team.

We arrived at 4.30pm after an adventurous taxi ride into the city and we were welcomed with open arms by the staff. They are psyched about their jobs and the lock-ins, they have high energy and they make you feel very welcome.

Before we went in we’d decided I’d be with one team and Warren with another. It was quite tense going in, we were all given a brief and I would suggest reading it fully, to give you an idea of what’s to expect when you get locked in!

The clock starts at 60 minutes and counts down. If you get a bit stuck or confused there are wonderful staff on the other end of the cameras ready to guide you in the right direction.

My team was pretty fast, I actually ended up focusing on trying out the different combinations because I couldn’t keep up with their amazing brains! I felt it was quite a mathematical room (good job I was in with a maths teacher, eh?) and there was a lot to uncover! It’s great to feel like a secret agent, escaping with your team!

We had a few moments where we needed a nudge in the right direction, but as a team we were effective and well-balanced. Our team managed to escape with 12 minutes to spare, whereas Warren’s team were allowed an extra 10 minutes to get themselves outta there! It was tense and andrenaline was pumping, and at one point one member suggested opening a window (my favourite bit!).All I can say is, whether your get out or not, you have so much fun!

When wed finished we were able to have a nose in the Creepy Carnival area and wow was it creepy! I really want to try this one out now, it has several rooms to work through and you start off in the dark with torches!

I think the rooms are designed perfectly to keep momentum as well as reach out to different kinds of people. Whether you’re a practical person or a thinker, there’s something for everyone at Breakout Cardiff!

We had an amazing time and afterwards it was great to have food and drink on our doorstep!

Thank you Breakout Cardiff for having us, and happy birthday Warren!
