10 Tips to Create Great Content for Your Blog!

*This is a sponsored post. All opinions are 100% honest and my own.

I’ve been blogging for over three years and it’s been a steep learning curve, especially when it comes to great blog content. I have recently been doing a lot of work when it comes to Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), and I thought it was time to share a few things that I’ve learnt about good online content with you lovely lot…

When it comes to blogging tips, I feel as though I’ve ran the gauntlet over the past few years, so it’s good to be able to share the love and help newbie bloggers get a head start when it comes to great content!

10 Tips to Create Great Content for Your Blog!

 1. Write with passion.

There’s no point writing a post you aren’t passionate about. Having a love (or a hate) for your subject matter is oh-so important, it will draw people in and help them relate. If you relate to something you see on the net, what’s your normal reaction?! To share it, right? Of course! So if you write passionate posts, your work will be shared by people who agree (and disagree) with your point of view. Simple, right?

2. Keywords.

This is one I’m still working on. I do my best to pop what I feel are important key words into my posts, but this area of expertise feels slightly like a minefield. I will keep you posted on this point though, as I’m currently having a chat with a very knowledgeable and helpful SEO Marketing Manager. Anyway, this takes me onto number…

3. Work with someone in the know!

There are lots of business out there offering services for SEO, marketing and general content support for bloggers. There are great options out there, especially when it comes to content marketing for small businesses. If you have the budget and can afford to hire somebody to support you in this way, then I think it’s money well spent.

4. Add photos…

Photos show us the bigger picture. No matter how much you love the written word, when it comes to pictures within a blog post, I think they’re pretty essential. They visually tell the story along side the words, they offer a little relief for the obsessive reader and they also add colour and fun to posts. Don’t ignore how great photos can be in a blog post!

5. Titles and Alt Text.

I had no idea about this when I started out. I’ve only recently fully understood it, so hopefully I can help a newbie blogger out by mentioning this! On Blogger, each photo has the option for title text and alt text to be added. You simply give the photo a title and in the alt text section you describe the photo. This helps anyone who is visually impaired to ‘see’ what appears in the photo. Pretty cool, right?! Well, only if you remember to do it!

6. Find your ‘niche’!

Whether you run a  lifestyle blog,  or  parenting blog or a wedding blog it’s important to know where you sit in the world of bloggers. Finding the things you are passionate about and incorporating them into your blog and your brand is essential. I still find this a difficult task, mostly because I’m a parent but I also enjoy non-parent things (such as wine!) and I want to feature these on the blog. I am trying my best to focus on ‘lifestyle’, but sometimes this is mixed in with home and interiors, a tad confusing…

I do think this is a little bit of a difficult task unless you have a huge focus on one particular subject, so take your time with this and don’t jump in at the deep end. Keep it broad until your niche finds you!

7. Get down and dirty with dates…

It seems that there is a day for everything. From World Book Day to Left Hander’s Day (one of my faves!), there’s something out there for everyone. These kind of celebrations interest people, they’re more likely to click on things that they can relate to, like being left handed or if they’re in search of a specific event. Get organised ahead of the year and plan content around these amazing events throughout the year to drive traffic to your site. This kind of content is fun, interesting and very click-able!

8. Get SEO savvy!

I’m on a huge learning curve when it comes to SEO, but one thing I didn’t know was how important it was! Optimising each post with keywords, alt text for images, getting your Google Analytics and Search Console set up, adding in headings and search descriptions, categories or labels, optimising your permalink… I’m exhausted just writing it, but it works! Do it now and get used to doing all the fiddly bits and it will soon become second nature, and yes, it’ll give you awesome content in terms of SEO.

9. Add a Pin.

In my opinion, having a Pinterest Pin in your post makes it look that little bit more professional. They’re cute too so they’re also aesthetically pleasing for the reader perusing your post and they offer a link to your blog via another source of social media.

10. Be You.

The most important part of your blog content is being yourself. If people can’t relate to you then your time is somewhat wasted. You want your readers to get where you’re coming from, you want to spark something inside them so they’ll continue to read. Writing content that’s honest and comes from your heart is the most important part of your package, do this and the rest will come….
